February 20, 1994: At Central Falls, Rhode Island, a 16 year old girl claims she was kidnapped at knifepoint and raped. When pressed, she admits she spent the night with her boyfriend and panicked. Detective Joseph Corey says “We thought best that it be handled by her mother”.

The girl actually went into considerable detail describing the abduction - at 10.30am the previous day, ie Friday, February 19 - baby booties dangling in the vehicle, a house that contained a stove, milk crates, and a sheet over the windows. She arrived home and told her brother, who had already reported her missing. Then he phoned the police and informed them (in good faith) of the alleged rape.

And just for limerick writers, this non-crime was investigated by Pawtucket Police!
