Bibliography (Part 1)

Letter of the Jews of Arles or Letter of the Jews of Spain. [WFG 45-6] This is dated 1489 but probably originates from the 16th Century.

A satirical letter, and one open to misinterpretation by the “Jew-wise” and the stupid.

Monita secreta (privata) Societatis Jesu. (The Secret Instructions of the Jesuits), by Heronym Zahorowski, published at Crakow, (1614). Falsified as Notobrigae, (1612). [Not seen by compiler.]

This is a notorious calumny on the Jesuit order. It is included here to demonstrate the often neglected fact that others besides the Jews have often been the victims of calumny. Herman Bernstein refers to the Protocols as a similar type of literature to the Monita Secreta.

SECRETA MONITA Societatis Jesu. THE SECRET INSTRUCTIONS OF THE JESUITS. Au défaut de la Force, il faut employer la Ruse, Printed for John Wathoe, London, (1723). 127 pages (plus an ERRATA page and other pages). In English and Latin. [BL]

Proofs of a Conspiracy..., by John Robison, (1797). [BL – microfilm.]

See entry for 1967.

Simonini Letter, (c1806) [WFG 27]

According to Cohn this was published at Paris in the French anti-Semitic journal Le Contemporain, July 1878, pages 58-61 and has been reprinted many times since. Macchiavel, Montesquieu, Rousseau, by Jacob Venedey, published by Franz Dunder, Berlin, (1850). 484 pages. No index. [BL]

DIALOGUE AUX ENFERS ENTRE MACHIAVEL ET MONTESQUIEU OU LA POLITIQUE DE MACHIAVEL AU XIXe SIECLE, PAR UN CONTEMPORAIN, (Maurice Joly), Bruxelles, (1865). 337 pages plus a page of ERRATA at the back. [BL]

The copy in the British Library is stamped 8 FE 66. It is said to have been donated by Philip Graves. The book was republished in 1868, under the author’s own name, of course.

Antisemiten-Katechismus: Le Juif le judaïsme et la judaïsation des peuples chrétiens, (4) by Henri Roger Gougenot des Mousseaux, published by Henri Plon, Paris, (1869). 568 pages. [BL]

Biarritz Gaëta-Warfchau-Düppel, credited to Sir John Retcliffe [ie Hermann Goedsche], Berlin, Verlag von Carl Sigism. 479 pages. [BL]

This is actually a paperback and is held at shelfmark C120b8 with other volumes in the series. I’m not sure if this is To Sedan because I don’t read German, but the interested reader can visit the British Library and see for himself. This edition is dated 1869.

Die Eroberung der Welt durch die Juden (World Conquest by the Jews), by Osman-Bey, alias Kibridli-Zade, alias Frederick Millingen, seventh edition, published at Wiesbaden, (1875). [WFG 60]

Cohn refers to Millingen as Millinger. See also entry for 1878.

In the Jewish Cemetery in Czech Prague (the Jews sovereigns of the world), (1876). [WFG 36-7]

THE CONQUEST OF THE WORLD BY THE JEWS. AN HISTORICAL AND ETHNICAL ESSAY, by Major Osman, Bey, Revised and Translated by F.W. Mathias, published by the St. Louis Book Club & News Company, St. Louis, (1878). 71 pages. [BL]

According to the British Library Current Catalogue (ie from 1975), (5) this book was apparently first published in Russian at Basle in 1873. A copy of this 116 page book is held at the Oriental and India Office. According to the Retrospective Catalogue, a translation was also published at Cremona in 1880 under the pseudonym Spartaco.

A Review of Political and Historical Events During the Past Ten Years

This is the non-existent book, said to have been published c1890 by Sir John Retcliffe and said by Butmi to have contained a translation of The Rabbi’s Speech. It is mentioned by Bernstein. Cohn, [WFG 37] refers to it as Annal of the Political and Historical Events of the Last Ten Years.

Tayna Yevreystva (The Secret of Jewry), published in Russia, (February 1895). [WFG 104-5]

Znamia (or Znamya)

The earliest version of the Protocols – as they are understood – appeared in this Russian anti-Semitic newspaper between August 26 and September 7, 1903. They were said to have been translated from the French. [See WFG for the full background]

The Root of our Troubles, published 1905 & 1906. [WFG 66]

Another early version of the Protocols. This was said originally to have been translated from the French. Probably edited by Butmi.

The Rabbi’s Speech, published in Les Juifs et nos contemporains, (1896). This is also published by Cohn as Appendix A, [WFG 269-74].

Velikoe v Malom I Antikhrist, Kak Blizkaia Politicheskaia Vozmozhnost’; Zapiski Pravoslavnago = The Great in the Little and Antichrist as a Near Political Possibility; Notes of an Orthodox Person, (6) by S. A. Nilus, 2ndEdition, revised and enlarged, published at Tsarskoe Selo, (1905).

The first Nilus version was published 1901 (without the Protocols), also 1905, 1911 and 1917. The Nilus original 1905 edition runs to 417 pages and is held at shelfmark C37e31 in the British Library. It is stamped 10 AU 1906 BRITISH MUSEUM. The book is printed in Russian. I believe this is the only copy in existence, but can’t vouch for that.

Enemies of the Human Race, by George T. Butmi, published at St Petersburg, (1906 and 1907). Russian title Vragi Roda Chelovecheskago.

The 1st and 2nd Editions appear never to have been seen and may not have existed. The 3rd edition (1906) is said to be revised and enlarged. The 4th edition was published at St Petersburg, 1907. There are various transliterations of the title.

Literary Forgeries, by James Anson Farrer, Introduction by Andrew Lang, published by Longmans, Green, London, (1907). 282 pages. No Index. [BL]

No mention of the Protocols, but contains documentation on all manner of bizarre forgeries, including letters from the Apostles!

The GERMAN-BOLSHEVIK CONSPIRACY, published in the WAR INFORMATION SERIES No. 20 – October, 1918 ISSUED BY THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC INFORMATION GEORGE CREEL, Chairman. 30 pages. Contains documents numbered 1-68 (& 37A).

This is the Sisson Documents or Sisson Report. [BL] See also entry for 1956.

Below: three volumes held in the British Library at shelfmark C37ee4.

These publications are printed in Russian.

1) 1920
2) 1920
3) 1919 (according to the catalogue)

The books say 1919-20, 1920 & 1925; one is listed as a Periodical Publication published at Berlin and/or Munich. Another is said to be a Revision of the 1911 edition by Nilus and is said also to be from the work of Sir John Retcliffe, ie Hermann Goedsche.

DIE DEUTSCH-BOLSCHEWISTISCHE VERSCHÖWRUNG 70 DOKUMENTE über die Beziehungen der Bolschewiki, zur deutschen Heeresleitung, Grossindustrie und Finanz, nebst einer Anzahl photographischer Reproduktionen Herausgegeben vom COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC INFORMATION UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Der Freie Verlag, Bern, (1919). 123 pages. [BL]

A German translation of the Sisson Report.

The Secret of the Jewish World-Embracing Government, from a work of the last century, which was bought by the Jews and so disappeared from the book trade, published at Berlin, (1919). [WFG]

The Secrets of the Wise Men of Zion, alternatively The Secrets of the Elders of Zion, by Gottfried zur Beek, published at Charlottenburg, (1919). [Not seen by compiler.]

Gottfried zur Beek was the pen name of Captain Müller von Hansen (or von Hausen) or Ludwig Müller. This is said to have been the first West European edition of the Protocols. According to Cohn [WFG 293], Die Geheimnisse der Weisen von Zion was actually published in 1920 (six editions). A shortened edition ran to fifteen editions by 1933 and twenty-two editions by 1938. The first edition was published mid-January 1920, [WFG 133]. (See also entries for 1929 and 1938).

JEWRY UEBER ALLES! IS THE
JEW TO ENSLAVE THE WORLD? (Undated)

This is a piece of nonsense the current writer found in a Public Record Office file, HO 144/21377. Probably put out by someone associated with the Britons, it appears to be a one-sided leaflet (Published by F. Curtis, 62 Oxford Street, W.1.). According to this, we’ll all have had our chips by 1925.

The Sunbeam, a Russian emigré newspaper published at Berlin. Said to have published extracts from the Protocols, c1919. [Not seen by compiler.]

Die Weisen von Zion – Das Buch der Fälschungen, by Otto Friedrick, published at Lübeck, (1920). [Not seen by compiler.]

The Bolshevik Report

The name given to the Protocols by H.A. Gwynne of the Morning Post.

The Jewish Bogey AND THE FORGED PROTOCOLS OF THE LEARNED ELDERS OF ZION, by Lucien Wolf, published by the Press Committee of the Jewish Board of Deputies, London, (1920). 48 pages. [BL]

Also known as The Myth of the Jewish Menace... and The Truth About the Forged Protocols.

The Jewish Peril: PROTOCOLS OF THE Learned Elders of Zion, published by Eyre & Spottiswoode, London, (February 1920). 95 pages. [BL]

Second edition published August 1920; third edition published September 1920. Both by the Britons.

The third edition (Britons) runs to 96 pages. There is a copy of this in the Public Record Office, file HO 144/21377; it is in a folder called The Jewish Peril & Bolshevist Bible, and is dated 5/11/20.

ZIONISM versus BOLSHEVISM.
A STRUGGLE FOR THE SOUL OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE.
By the Rt. Hon. Winston S. Churchill, published in the Illustrated Sunday Herald, February 8, 1920, page 5.

A real old chestnut is this, and one that has often been cited by the Jew-wise.

An Indictment of the Jews – Or a Reactionary Extravaganza?, by E. Saunders.

This is referred to by Lebzelter, page 23, (see entry for 1978).

Le Péril Judéo Maçonnique – I. Les Protocols des Sages de Zion, Edited by Mgr E. Jouin, Paris, (1920).

This is mentioned by Bernstein, page 285, (see entry for 1935).

The Zunder (or Sunder) Letter (or Document).

This is a sort of an update of the Protocols. The first mention of it in English appears to have been in the columns of the Sunday Times, of all places. The issue for April 4, 1920, page 12 reports:

“CONQUER WHOLE WORLD.”
JEWISH BOLSHEVIK BOASTS.

The Hidden Hand for October 1920, page 6, reports it under A PROTOCOL OF 1919. In his 1955 book Fraudulent Conversion, the British Nazi (later Nazi leader) Colin Jordan reports it and authenticates it. According to the Hidden Hand, it was first mentioned in a Russian newspaper called Prizyv of February 5, 1920, and was written in Hebrew; according to the Sunday Times it was written in Yiddish.

Frankly, this sort of nonsense is too silly for words. Cohn reproduces the entire text in English on pages 119-21. The current writer also discusses it. See entries for 1967 and July 1994: [Cohn, Warrant For Genocide, and Baron, Not The Protocols Of Zion!].

THE JEWISH PERIL, published in the Spectator, May 15, 1920, pages 652-4.

An extensive review of the Eyre & Spottiswoode printing of the Protocols. Suggests they may have been the work of a deranged Jewish mystic, but is unreservedly hostile.

“The Jewish Peril.”
JOINT FOREIGN COMMITTEE’S ATTITUDE.
[COMMUNICATED.] published in the Jewish Chronicle, May 21, 1920, page 8.

A report of a Board of Deputies’ meeting. They wanted to take action “In view of the suspicious character of this statement and of the further avowal of the author that he is unable to produce evidence of the genuineness of his documents...” It’s a pity they have never adopted such a critical attitude towards survivor literature.
