Rex v Wallace

 

The judgment below from the Court Of Appeal (the Court Of Criminal Appeal as it then was) is as far as I am aware the first and only time the jury verdict in an English murder trial has been overturned as perverse. For what it is worth, I believe Wallace was guilty. It is shameful that over sixty and now over eighty years later juries are convicting men and occasionally women on evidence that is far less substantial or even contrived, including in at least two murder cases: Michael Stone and Omar Benguit.
